Personal Statement

I have been a competitive athlete most of my life. As a result I’m very goal directed. My ultimate personal goal is to have a stable successful life with a career that I feel passionate about. In order to achieve my ultimate dream I must have shorter term goals that will motivate me and keep me focused on my dream. My highest priority right now is to continue my athletic career as a water polo player at a four-year college and earn my bachelors degree. I will use my undergraduate experience to finalize what I’m passionate about so that I can pursue that goal in graduate school.

I consider being an athlete as part of my identity, and I use what I’ve learned as an athlete in other areas of my life. For example, being the captain of both my swim and water polo teams has given me leadership skills that I apply in my work and at my church. I have taken the lead on developing a weekly activity night for younger kids, as well as a monthly girls’ fellowship meeting.

Being an athlete has also made me more determined and committed in everything I do. After a full day of school I usually have three hours of high school practice followed by a three hour club practice. The only time that I miss a competition with either one of these teams is when the schedule does not permit me to do both. Keeping up with school, my sport, and work requires excellent time management skills. Although some people may mistake my easy-going nature as meaning that I am not competitive, once you get to know me you will appreciate my determination, commitment, and competitiveness.

I believe my combination of leadership, determination, commitment, and competitiveness make me an outstanding candidate for your program. Please give me an opportunity to show you in person who I am, and what I would bring to your team if I played for you.

Respectfully,

Katelyn Watkins

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
