Personal Statement
Aloha my name is Waiahuli Akau and I am currently a Junior at Kamehameha schools Hawai'i located on Hawai'i Island. For many years i've tried different sports such as Basketball, Softball, and swimming. But none really stuck with me I was never really passionate about it, just going through the motions. In the 7th grade I had a sudden interest to try waterpolo, watching my sister and how much fun she had playing. From my first time getting in the pool and playing with the other girls I knew it was something I wanted to pursue. I believe that in order for you to be truly happy you have to do the things you are passionate about and work hard at it. I am always open to building my skills and achieving those goals I set for myself. When I see myself, I see someone who is willing to fail and learn from those mistakes to progress. I see myself as a fast learner able to take what I learn and apply it in the pool. I feel I demonstrate great coachability as i know I am not the best and am always looking for feedback. I will not only work hard to refine my skills but also help my teammates to achieve their goals. Pushing them will push me and help progress our team forward. Attending Kamehameha Schools Hawai'i, a college preparatory school, I am challenged to handle numerous responsibilities that include athletics, academics and even church activities. Something that sets me apart from other athletes is that I won't dwell on my mistakes or when other people say i'm not good enough. I will persevere and be the best player I can be to represent my family, my coaches, and my team.
