Personal Statement
When I was in 3rd grade I started to competitively swim, but I was never the best on my team or anywhere near the best. The summer before my 8th grade year I saw there was a water polo camp through my park district, and I joined it. In the camp there were around 8 kids that showed up and it ran for 3 weeks. The camp gave me the basics to water polo, but not much else.
Before my freshman year, I joined a camp through my high school that really helped me with getting down the skills that would help me for my high school season, and it taught me just how much I would love the sport. I did competitive swimming to help with my speed and endurance development for the upcoming season and it continued when I did club during the winter. During club I had done my first actual water polo games against other teams. The week club ended was the week that the high school season started. I came into the season with the love of the sport and a reasonable amount of skill for the game. The next week we started games and I was told that I would be playing on the varsity team as the only freshman. At out first game I was in the game for a short amount of time, but still had a few goals. At all of the next games I would be a starter at either driver or whole set, and now, still in season, I am one of the main shooters and defenders for the team.
In the classroom, I work my hardest at everything I do. Recently I have been learning how to speak Japanese, which might I say is a very difficult language to learn, since it has three different alphabets. I am also in three honors classes and one AP class, which definitely teach my how to manage my time with games, practices, homework, and the ability to get the right amount of sleep. I also participate in Math Team and Scholastic Bowl, which help better my knowledge in certain classes.
In the future, I aspire to play polo because of my love for the game, but I'll see how that works out.
