Personal Statement
During my childhood I grew up in a family of swimmers. I did club swimming year round but never really seemed to enjoy it. As some time passed my oldest brother gained interest in water polo. I would watch his practices and beg my parents to sign me up for any kind of water polo class, but at the time I was too young for the only program available. As soon as I was old enough for this class (10 years old), I attended every practice. I soon after joined an actual club team in my area. This went on for about 2 years. Then, my brother started playing on a high school team. I would go to all of his games, and at first without realizing it grew my game sense. Before high school I attended probably 99% of my brothers games and the games of the high school girls team. I watched every game paying close attention to see what people were doing in the water to be successful, and payed attention to tricks that help them move around quickly. In about 7th grade, I started taking every opportunity to learn and get better at my sport. I found programs like ODP, I asked my club coaches if I could practice with the high schoolers, and I played in any tournament I could sign up for. I did this until high school, where freshman year I was a varsity starter. I had been playing the sport longer than anyone else on the team and I was only a freshman. But freshman year, I played more games and got more playing time than all of my previous years of playing combined.
I think what drove me to do all of this was my sense of competition. I’ve always wanted to be the best at what I do, whatever it is. I apply my competitiveness to everything I do, including academics. I dream of playing division 1 in college, but I will keep striving to get better wherever I end up.
Aside from water polo I am a very passionate maker, I am always in my shed building something or working on some project. Some projects I have completed are, a solar heater for my workshop, a woodshed for firewood, and countless other items that I use around my house. I also love playing the guitar and occasionally attempting to write songs.
