I made a decision two and a half years ago to become a doctor and I am not going to give up on that goal until I have the title of Doctor in front of my name. My high school career is coming to a close soon and I know that college is exactly where I need to be to continue my dream. I am seeking a college that will allow me to compete at a collegiate level as well, as I have been a varsity wrestler for the last 2 seasons. My dad has been a law enforcement officer most of my life and he has influenced my desire to help those who could not help themselves.
Wrestling has taught me about nutrition, diet, how to live a healthy lifestyle and encouraged me to maintain good grades and attendance. I have participated in softball as a JV outfielder and competed in track throwing discus and shot put throughout my high school career. I am a member of the NCSA and am seeking colleges that will allow me to continue my athletic career at the collegiate level. Wrestling has shaped me into the person I am today by providing not only a competitive outlet but a social one as well. My first year wrestling, only six girls were on the team. This year the team grew to eleven girls. Ten teammates wrestled during the state qualifying matches, where I placed 5th in my bracket. My relationship with my coaches and teammates has grown immensely and I look forward to developing a great relationship with my coach and teammates at the collegiate level.
As a senior, I am ranked 21 out of 178 in my class with a 3.969 GPA. In October of 2022, I was inducted into the National Honors Society. I maintained above a 3.6 GPA spanning 3 consecutive semesters and was awarded an academic letter. I am on the Excelsior Springs Principal’s Honor Roll and have been for the last five semesters. I obtained a Top Ten Score on the English II End of Course Exam in 2022. I was awarded Sophomore of the Year for the 2021-2022 Wrestling Season. I was awarded an academic all-conference for the 2021-2022 season. For the 2022-2023 season, I was awarded second team all conference and recognized for my academic excellence by my coaches although the new conference does not.
My mom and dad always taught me to make a plan and always have a backup plan. Should something in my life change and my desire to become a doctor dwindle, I am seeking options to pursue a law degree and become an attorney so I can continue serving my community in another capacity.
I have been able to maintain my grades and excel as an athlete even with my first year being the introduction of Covid-19 into our society. I attended school 2 days a week and online for the first year, attended school with masks on when we returned to in-class learning and I have held several part-time jobs all while maintaining my academics and athletics. My family has supported me by attending my athletic competitions and academic award ceremonies over the last several years.
