Personal Statement

My name is Braden Blackorby and I graduate from high school in 2024.   After graduation I plan to continue my studies at a highly accredited university where I will also compete and proudly represent my family in the school's wrestling program.

At eight years old, I dreamed of playing football at the highest level.  However, before I was allowed to join the youth tackle football program my parents required me to sign up for the youth wrestling program.  The irony here is that no one in my family (and I mean no one) has ever wrestled.   My parents believed that wrestling builds both physical and mental toughness and a sense of self reliance and confidence; all of which could translate to success on the football field and in life.   Fortunately, my parents were right!  Wrestling has taught me all of those things and more.  In short, wresting has changed my life and I am thankful for the opportunity to compete in the sport.

I am a leader in the classroom and in athletics, a hard worker, and a relationship builder.  I have lived internationally and moved extensively across the United States.  Until my family settled in the state of Iowa at the age of thirteen, I had lived in Illinois, Alabama, Georgia (twice), Shanghai, and Virginia.  As such, I have been enrolled in multiple schools and participated in various youth wrestling programs, clubs and camps.  In summary, I am a smart, adaptable young man who has demonstrated a high degree of resilience and perseverance.

My love and passion for wrestling continues to grow along with my strength and technical skill.  I will be an Iowa state champion and a national high school All-American.  Eventually, I will also be a national collegiate All-American.  However, my goal during the next few years is to find a college program that prepares me for life after wrestling!
