Personal Statement
Let me introduce myself, my name is Torren Lawson and I am a 16 year old High School Junior. I enjoy the outdoors and sports, but have always had my eye on my future and what college had to offer to get me closer to my goal in the engineering field.
There are many things that make me stand out as a future recruit. I've always thought of what my future had to offer me if I worked hard. My studies have continued to be most important; even while involved in wrestling and other sports, I still maintained high grades but not without knowing what is expected of me.
This last year I achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and I am proud of this accomplishment with everything it has taught me over the years. I lift weights 5 days a week and change irrigation hand lines, as well as buck bales, Spring through Fall. Summer jobs are not unfamiliar to me, making money to save money.
A 3.868 grade point average is on my transcripts and I am in the National Honors Society, being involved in planning and volunteering for fund raisers in our community. I was Team Captain on our high school wrestling team and am a dedicated wrestler. Staying active pre and post high school season, includes coaching and refereeing for the younger wrestling teams and also being a part of Overtime Wrestling Club and Spartan Wrestling Club. This is where I immerse myself in the preparation and enjoy what I get out of the training, confidence and maturity.
Working hard is just who I am; whether for money, helping someone, or towards personal goals, I am confident to say that my future holds many opportunities. I believe that because I know it will take hard work to get there and that depends on how motivated I am every day. My family has been very supportive and encouraging throughout my life and are very important to me; I am blessed to have them.
Above all, hard work, dedication and focus will be the deciding factor in my future, and that excites me.
