John Dockter '11 Recruiting Profile

From March to August, I am your everyday, ordinary teenager. I work around the house and the family farm, spend quality time with those around me, enjoy the great outdoors and lift weights. Wrestling, however, is a way of life. I have been wrestling since I was three years old and it feels like there has never been an off season. I feel reborn each fall when I step out on that practice mat in the wrestling room. As I stated, I have wrestled since I was three. Over the years, I have competed against all sizes of wrestlers. Right now I am 5â??8â?? tall and weigh 185 pounds since I try to bulk up some for football season. In high school I have wrestled at 160, 171 and 189 lbs. But not in that order! As a freshman, I competed with a senior for the varsity 160 lb. position. I got close to beating the guy, but fate stepped in and our 189 lb wrestler was hurt just a few weeks from district. We didnâ??t have another person at that weight so the coach asked for volunteers and I decided to give it a try. I was about 25 lbs underweight, but it was a varsity position and I would have a chance to extend my season. I placed second in district which qualified me for state. I didnâ??t place at state that year, but I had fun, got some great experience and made some points for the team which helped us to a second place finish. It has been a passion of mine to wrestle at the collegiate level. In recent years I have shown some promise of becoming a college quality wrestler with a 4th place finish at state and then a State Runner-Up this last spring. I donâ??t have any preference for the size of the school or the division it competes in as long as I can wrestle. I am undecided as to my major but I am considering a career in optometry. I am not afraid of the academic challenges of college with a 3.2 grade point with AP classes and a 25 on my first pass at the ACT. Itâ??s my plan to pull the ACT score up a couple of points. Right now I am only a high school wrestler, but I am looking for a coach who recognizes the potential I can contribute to the team and is willing to work with me to make me better. Iâ??m not finished with my education both on and off the mat and I am looking for a combination of professors and coaches who will contribute to my success.
