Personal Statement
I have been wrestling ever since I was four years old. I honestly cannot imagine my life without wrestling in it. It has always been my goal to wrestle in college. When I was younger and played modified sports, I was a three sport athlete playing football, wrestling and lacrosse but once I reached 9th grade I cut out the others to focus solely on wrestling and I do not miss them. I wrestle four to five days a week year round. I have such respect for this sport. Through it I have met some of my best friends from all over. It has allowed me to travel all over, participating in many tournaments in different states, and being exposed to different styles of wrestling. I always look forward to these tournaments and seeing my friends that have become like family.
This past fall I ran Varsity cross country which I have to say was by far the worst sport I have ever done! However, I knew that it would benefit me for wrestling season so I stuck with it. For me, as long as I finished the race I considered it a win. (this was very hard for me at first- not coming in first was not something that I enjoyed) This is one example of my dedication to the sport of wrestling. I know that they are things that I must do and sacrifices that I must make but they are all worth it to me if they will benefit my wrestling performance.
As far as what makes me a good candidate for a team, I would say that my wrestling team is my family. I value the concept of being part of a team. I am a hard worker, who puts wrestling first above all else. One thing that I do in my spare time is help out with youth wrestling programs. This summer I was asked to work with a few younger wrestlers who were looking to improve. Their parents offered to pay me but I felt uncomfortable taking money for something that I love doing. Wrestling has given me so much, I enjoy being able to give back as well.
