Personal Statement
Hello Coaches,
I have had aspirations of going to college since about 7th grade and my desire to go has only grown since then. Going to college would not only be a huge accomplishment for me, but also for my family, because I would be the first to go to college. I want to go to college so that I may better myself as an individual through higher education and also to make a better future for myself. Regardless of the field of study I choose, I want to do things that will benefit the world around me and make it a better place.
My dreams of wrestling in college started when I was first introduced to the sport in junior high. I soon fell in love with every aspect of the sport and wanted to go as far as I could with it. Wrestling has been a major influence on my life, as it has taught me discipline and structure, two things that are a vital part of having a successful life in the long run. It has also taught me that, the things I want , come through hard work and sacrifice. I love the sport and everything I do is to better myself as an athlete. I wrestle 11 months of the year, some of my spring and summer accomplishments include, 4 Freestyle & Greco State Championships 2012 & 2013 placed 1st in both styles @ 152 lbs, placed in the top 4 at Southeast Regional Freestyle & Greco Championships in Atlanta Ga. 2010-2011-2012, wrestled for Team N.C. in the 2013 AAU Jr. Olympic Games in Detroit Mi. where I went 11-6 in the 5 day National dual meet tournament, placed 3rd at the 2012 NHSCA U.S. Open Folkstyle High School Nationals in Harrisburg Pa. and was named High School All-American. I am a 2X State Qualifier in N.C. 4A and have had less than stellar performances both times going 1-2 and and placing 9th. I'm not going to make any excuses as to why, but I can tell you, this has left me hungry to reach the finals, where my coaches say, I should have been the last two times. I feel like I would be an excellent addition to any team, because of my drive, desire and willingness to learn and get better. I thrive on the energy and competition inside the wrestling room, as it only drives my desire to be the best that I can be. In closing, I would like for you to consider in your recruiting process, because you as a coach would be helping a hard working kid, have a chance, at a better life and also a chance to excel in the sport I love.
Thank you for your time,
Joshua A. Dula
