Throughout my high school career, I have learned many things academically, as well as about myself. I first became interested in wrestling as a freshman, through my intense involvement in the JROTC at my school. Through this program, I was sent to another school to help keep time for a wrestling tournament. After that, I decided I wanted to wrestle, but I was not able to act on it until junior year, due to me being the captain of the drill team. Once I started wrestling, I learned my purpose and goals and visions began forming. I learned that I can manage my time remarkably well, making time for AP classes, as well as relationships and spending time with friends and family.
In my family, academic work has always been just as or more important than sports. One of my educational goals is to graduate with an honors diploma, which I am on track to do. For college, I want to earn a degree in something that I am passionate about, and at the same time enjoy the college experience. To get to where I am today, I have overcome many obstacles. Another reason I was intrigued by wrestling was because of the strength wrestlers possess. When I was younger, I did not work out and was always weaker than my friends and other students, I had had enough and decided I wanted to be mighty and a formidable opponent. By starting a new sport and switching schools, I learned a few things about myself. I learned that when I set my mind to something, I have an unmatched work ethic. I also learned that I can make friends almost anywhere, which helped me a great deal when I switched to a new school where I knew nobody.
