Personal Statement

One of the adversities I faced was when my parents got divorced. While this has not been easy, I am fortunate to have 2 parents that can set aside differences to do what they can for their kids. This has helped me to learn to look at failures in a more positive way and instead of being negative, I ask myself, "What can I do from here?"

To help me cope with my parent's divorce, my dad suggested that I go out for wrestling. So, I began wrestling my freshman year with the original intent to stay in shape for lacrosse and have a physical outlet. Unfortunately I got injured during my sophomore season, but came back my junior year and just loved it so much that I decided to dedicate myself to just wrestling. I am proud to say that I finished my junior season only one win away from placing at State.

Motivated by my improvement, I began my off-season before senior year by finding a mat club to wrestle with and went to Reno Worlds in April 2018, where I took 6th place. I also started watching matches and move tutorials online, as well as weight training for the first time.

I feel that I am strong at goal setting and planning the steps/work necessary to reach my goals, as well as possessing the ability to maintain a high level of motivation regardless of environment.

Sheldon wrestling has not been a quality program for years, but we were fortunate to get new coaches this year that are dedicated to teaching us and growing the program. While this has been a remarkable difference from previous years, it is happening in my final year of high school and I hope to learn and develop as much as possible this season.

Through the grind of practice, I've learned that your mental game and attitude matter more than your natural talent does. Specifically, I've figured out that getting down on myself when a new move does not come quickly only delays success.

My goal is to win the Oregon State 6A 285 title, continue to wrestle competitively and weight train to develop my skills and physique.

In college, I am currently interested in studying business and marketing because I enjoy challenges and being creative.
