Personal Statement
One of the best things that has ever happened to me was my mother marrying my stepfather. Some of the most influential advice I have received from him occurred before the state tournament when he said, "Son don't rest on your laurels". He was encouraging me to never stop training and this taught me to always keep raising my goals upon completing them. My father has pushed me to be the best I can athletically as well as academically, but what he said that day extends beyond wrestling. When you elevate your goals as you complete them you never become stagnant and success will always be achieved in school, life and anything you pursue. Wrestling has helped me prepare for life during and after high school with tools such as time management, persistence and tremendous competitiveness. Wrestling after high school would serve as "extra practice" for the mental fortitude and dedication that it takes to succeed in life.
I have been very lucky to wrestle for a high school that has the most state champions out of any classification in Oregon and over my last three years our team has taken 2nd, 2nd and 4th in state. While on that team the best feeling I had was scoring points for them, but the greatest memory was watching my friends succeed along with me. Being part of a small school and team the pressure was always put on us to get the most points possible in order to win, which trained me to be more aggressive because I am never selfish and always hunting for those big team points. I believe that this unique coaching style and mindset has prepared me for the next level.
