Personal Statement
Hi my name is Andrew Kurtenbach, I'm entering into my 10th season of wrestling as a Senior in high School, 3rd as high school varsity. Before high school I was a multi-sport athlete in Wrestling, Baseball, Track, Cross Country, and Football. Heading into 9th grade I committed to wrestling year round. I moved over the summer before Senior year and now attend Rapid City Stevens. Along with wrestling I mentor freshman, have been a camp counselor, and placed in top 20% in the world for DECA which in essence a competitive business club.
After my freshman season I began some Greco and Freestyle over the spring and Summer and did it again after my Sophomore season. My Sophomore year I did not qualify for state, but did place 7th at the Metro Conference Tournament. I have competed at Midwest Classic Nationals, but lost the match before a medal match. (overall record at MWC 2017, 2-2). Over the summer I attended the UNK Gold team camp for my second time, but did not compete in any tournaments over the summer. As a wrestler I am very successful with my scrambling ability, but do need some work on getting out on bottom. On top I like to dominate by constantly breaking down and turning opponents.
In college I hope to pursue a degree in either sports management/marketing or business management/marketing, and continue wrestling. My goal for college is to be an all- american, and to make the most of my career by working hard and never giving up.
