Personal Statement
I was a crossfit athlete for years, and quickly discovered success. I had an ability and a willingness to go places mentally, that others simply would not. While in high school I wanted to compete on a team sport, but crossfit was not an option. I went out for wrestling, won my first two matches (almost by accident) and in my third match broke my collar bone. I had to have a six-inch metal plate screwed in; regardless, I was hooked. Wrestling has consumed me ever since. In my junior year as a varsity starter I went 12-6, with 3 of those losses coming from “top 15” state ranked opponents. I finished in the top 24 in state with a trip to regionals. Since then I have wrestled year-round, with the help of two off season coaches. As Yianni Diakomihalis says, "I’m literally a new wrestler every week."
My dad is a firefighter, and my mom is a personal trainer. My entire life has been shaped around: faith, service, character, and frankly… toughness. Both my parents have raised me to believe that the quality of your work reveals your character. My dad has always told me that who I am is more important than what I choose to do; although I’m pretty sure he would like me to be a firefighter.
My name is Luke Combs. I just turned eighteen years old. I am quiet, but determined. I have a curious mind and can memorize data like a true nerd. I am funny, but often introverted. I am more conservative than most people my age. I am a Christian. I am mentally tough and can find comfort in the uncomfortable. I am respectful. I am loyal. I am consistent. I am coachable, and I am one of the hardest working people you will ever meet.
This is who I am, and what I want to do is wrestle.
Respectfully,
Luke H. Combs
