Lucas Schevikhoven '18 Recruiting Profile

Wrestling has been my passion since I was 4 years old.  I love the sport.  My whole family loves the sport.   

Wrestling has taught me many valuable life lessons.  I've learned how to win and lose with grace and appreciation for my coaches, teammates and my competition.  I've learned how to identify when something is not working and change up my plan.  I've learned to take the devastation from my toughest losses and use it as fuel.  Most importantly, I've learned how to focus my mind, body and emotions and keep pushing myself even when I'm not sure I have anything else to put on the mat.  I know there's always more in you than you think.  These valuable life lessons came from years of wrestling and have guided me through many sports, academic and personal experiences - good and bad.   

Through my volunteer work, team captain role and upcoming junior coaching positions, I'm able to share what I've learned with others.  Teaching someone to tap into their ability, then watching them succeed on the mat is as good, often times better, than my own wins. 

I will bring an unrelenting personal drive, servant leadership and sense of family to the wrestling room.  We will push ourselves, together, to NCAA championships and beyond.  After my wrestling career I hope to continue in the sport as a clinician, coach and referee.
