Personal Statement
In 3rd grade I asked my grandfather to take me to my first USA tournament. I had one week of practice behind me and couldn't wait to compete. We drove 3 hours, I went 0-2 and wrestled for a total of 50 sec. That season I went 0-10 but I was hooked. Wrestling in Wyoming is not easy as the travel time to a weekend tournament can be 3 or 4 hours each way. My next 2 seasons I combined for a total of 3 wins and 20 losses. Never once did I ever think of quitting. I knew that the work I put in would pay off one day.
I have been fortunate in that my family has supported me in travel, training, and the numerous gear purchases. We made a deal in 9th grade that I could wrestle anywhere in the nation as long as I gave something back to the sport. That year I joined the USWOA. I have officiated Greco, Freestyle and Folkstyle in Wyoming and also Western Regionals in Pocatello ID. Officiating has allowed me to wrestle in Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho, New Mexico, Nebraska, North Dakota and Florida.
I have worked hard to not only be the best wrestler possible but challenge myself scholastically. I am a member of FBLA, FCCLA, NSHSS, and Student Council President. Being part of a 7 man high school wrestling team your drilling partner may be 2 or three weight classes different than you but you have to make it work. Probably the best lesson I ever learned.
