Personal Statement
My name is Brendan Hunter and I am the starting catcher for the Union Mine Diamondbacks in El Dorado, CA. In addition, I also play infield and outfield positions. I am a member of the National Honors Society, have been the recipient of an Academic Block Letter and continue to take AP, Advanced and upper-level classes. In 2014, I earned an All League award for the Sierra Valley Conference having had the second highest batting average in our conference (.414), a .972 Fielding Percentage, .488 OBP, and a .486 SLG.
Giving back to the community that has supported me over the years is important to me. I offer my time at youth clinics to help with catching, hitting and throwing and I always make myself available to answer their questions. Over the last 4 years, I have been a volunteer at Dusty Baker's youngest baseball camp where I work with young players and last year I was a councilor for the Dusty Baker Baseball Camps 12-14 year old and Advanced Camp 14 1/2 - 17. I continue to donate my time each year to the Toys for Tots campaign, the Veterans of Foreign Wars fundraising campaigns, and fundraising for important causes with the National Honors Society.
I have studied martial arts since the age of 4 and am a third degree Black Belt. I credit my maturity, dedication, focus, and respect for others to my study of the martial arts, my trainers and my parents. I have played other sports other than baseball and Taekwondo; however, baseball is my passion.
My college aspirations, the size of the college campus and whether it is inside or outside of California are not an issue for me, instead I look at what the college can offer me academically, athletically, and socially that is important. My number one priority for college is to be on the field playing baseball all four years, graduate with honors and move on towards obtaining a Law degree. I want to be a contributor to my team, my college and my community.
