From the first time I picked up a ball when I was a little kid baseball has been my passion. I love to play the game and it is my goal to play at the college level.
One thing I truly enjoy is the strategy of the game. I think that is why I became a catcher. It allowed me to not only be involved in every pitch, but the game itself is laid out in front of me and my actions have a direct effect on the game.
Six years ago, I was fortunate enough to be part of the first travel team under the Walbeck Baseball Academy. Having a former MLB catcher as the head of the program was a real benefit to me as Matt and I have spent many hours working on my skills behind the plate along with countless discussions about strategies, situations, and just the game itself. Additionally, one of the most impactful baseball/ life lessons came from my WBA head coach, Glen Gross, who taught me that as a person and a player, you need to “control your controllables.”, which means that you need to focus on those things that you have control over and not on the things that you don’t.
I have been a starter on my high school varsity team since my freshman year. That has helped me adapt to the speed of the game. The connection to my school through sports has motivated me to work hard in the classroom. I’m dedicated to taking my athletic and academic career to the next level. I have pushed myself academically by taking four science classes through my first three years of high school. I am also a student of the game and often get compliments about my high baseball IQ. I am interested in studying sports management or business at the school I attend.
