Cooper Obst '26 Recruiting Profile

I am working hard every day to fulfill my dream of someday playing for a Division I baseball program.  As a student at the #1 private school in Florida, I am equally as dedicated to being successful in the classroom as I am on the field. 

While I played several other sports growing up, I always knew that my passion would be baseball.  I became interested in the catcher position early on, and I feel that my athleticism and baseball IQ have really set me apart from my competition.  In addition, I enjoy calling games and being a team leader in my position.

Several years ago, I realized that I could increase my chances of playing college baseball if I became a switch hitter, so I began the journey to bring my left-handed hitting up to the same level as my right-handed hitting.  This has not been easy.  It has taken hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of working on this skill.  There have been many times when I was sure I could get a hit righty, but I stayed with the plan to get my lefty reps.  Luckily I had supportive coaches who encouraged me to stay with it and keep working.  Since the summer of 2021, I have batted as a true switch hitter and have had great success facing both left and right-handed pitching.  It was a challenge to say the least, but I am glad I never gave up..

My parents have always been very supportive of my interest in baseball, and I have been fortunate to have had the very best batting and catcher-specific coaches through the years.  I have also had the opportunity to play on several high-level travel teams with exceptional coaching.  I am currently working on strength and mobility with a baseball-specific trainer.  In addition, I hit over 1,000 balls a week while also participating in my normal travel team practices, games and tournaments.
