Personal Statement
I'm Colton Lopez getting ready to graduate from Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, IL.
Our season has gotten off to a rocky start because of the weather. Several of our games have been canceled due to rain & snow. I'm really excited about our first game.
This past summer, I played for the Chicago White Sox A. C. E. (Amateur City Elite).
The last two months of summer baseball were awesome. I pitched in the Double Duty Classic sponsored by the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular field. From there, I played in the RBI tournament in St.Louis' Busch Stadium where we won the Midwest Regional. From there, I went to the 2013 Breakthrough Series sponsored by Major League Baseball and Team USA Baseball held at Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas where I threw three scoreless innings against some of the top high school players in America. Next, I went to play in the RBI World Series in Minneapolis, MN where I pitched against the Dominican Republic team and again threw three scoreless innings. Recently I threw 3 plus scoreless against Top Tier American in the Perfect Game Kernel's Tourney.
As a freshman I ended the season as the number two pitcher on my varsity team with 31 K's in 18 innings. I was the varsity's number one pitcher for my sophomore year leading the state of Illinois in strikeouts per Max Preps. Additionally, that year I was named to the Northwest Indiana Times' All Area Team for 2012; one of only two sophomores on the team. My junior year was just as successful, my ERA dropped and my strikeouts per inning ratio went up.
For college, my biggest concern is to find a "home" away from home. I want an excellent education and I gotta play baseball. I am looking for a family atmosphere where I can contribute to a hard working team. I would like to major in history, psychology, criminal justice, or physics.
