The first time I picked up a baseball I was four years old. I never knew how much joy and how much grief I would feel from this ball from that point on. Baseball has always been my first love, and better than any other thing in the world is standing on the mound, battling for my team. I think I realized how much I loved baseball when I first saw Derek Jeter play. There is nobody in the world that I respect more and would love to model my life after. Not just in the sense of a baseball player, but as a person. It was his across the body throws and his ability with the bat that first caught my eye. However, as I grew older and his career progressed, I began to see a different, more interesting side of him. The way he carried himself on the field, how he seemed to make everyone around him better and how he always found a way to come out on top. I try my hardest to emulate Jeter in these ways above everything else on the field. Derek Jeter set the blueprint to my baseball life and I credit this foundation of principle to anything I have and will accomplish.
Academics have never come easily to me. Unfortunately, I have been characterized as a student who simply learned too late in the game that you need to work equally as hard in the classroom as in the weight room. Although I regret not taking advantage of a mind I know possesses much higher capability than shown in my grades, I believe everything happens for a reason. I now know what it takes to achieve academically and am also working as hard as I can to achieve my goals athletically. My academic aspirations will not be based off of my grades because I am, and will show, that I am better than what I was when I was 15. If offered the option to help contribute to a college program, I would work harder than ever to become a better person not only for the team, but for myself. I believe I have the mind and capability on and off the field to do great things and I intend on showing anyone who doesn't believe me. A great example Derek Jeter set for me, when I first saw him, was that you have to have confidence. Confidence is something I do not lack, especially once you get to know me. The thing that makes me different than most people, not just other recruits, is the way I think. I will analyze and think things through to put two and two together in a faster, different way than others would. If there's one thing to know about me, it's that there is much more depth than expected, and once you figure that out, you will see just what I've got.
