Personal Statement
My name is Mason Durdel and I am primarily a center fielder. I made the freshman and sophomore team my freshman year and made the sophomore and varsity team my sophomore year. My junior year, I was a starting varsity outfielder but also was called on to pitch in relief several times. I've also played travel baseball since I was 9 years old for East Peoria and am currently with another local team called the Peoria Diamond Devils, playing a Show Case type schedule traveling throughout the Midwest. My current GPA is a 3.4 on a weighted scale due to all of my honors classes. I've been taking enriched/honors classes since middle school and will continue to do so throughout my high school career. I love to volunteer for events and meet new people. I was recently involved in organizing a blood drive for the Red Cross and had the opportunity this year to be the lead in the school musical. I had an incredible opportunity last November to take a trip to the Freedoms Foundation in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania because of an essay contest I won at school. I have a part time job and look to pursue a career in engineering or sports medicine. I've loved the game of baseball ever since I first stepped between those big white lines. From the time I started as just a small 6 year old kid, I've worked harder and harder every year to become better at baseball. It wasn't very hard for me considering I have an absolute love and passion for the game. My goals for the future include playing baseball and improving as much as possible. I'm looking forward to my senior year. I've also played varsity football since my freshman year but my love for baseball has completely overshadowed that. My goal and dream is to continue playing baseball at the collegiate level and hopefully become very successful in doing so. My coaches have mostly noticed my work ethic and constant hustle. They also enjoy my personality and ability to communicate and get through to my peers and teammates. I have a great understanding of the game of baseball and pick up on things very quickly. I maintain a heavy training schedule by lifting or training at least 5 times a week. I enjoy working out and observing my improvement. I am interested in schools all over the country. I am open to all colleges (DI, DII, DIII, JUCO, or NAIA). My biggest priority is school and a good education but I do have a goal of becoming an athlete at the collegiate level. I keep a strong love and passion for the game of baseball with a great desire to play in college.
