Ian McCormick '17 Recruiting Profile

Since High School, I am a highly motivated student and athlete in that order. Prior to HS, athletics were a main focus as academics were more standardized than HS. I have now had to step up my game in academics because I would like to pursue being a college athlete at an academically fulfilling and renown University and challenge myself with a broader scope available at my HS. I have been able to maintain my academics while playing football and baseball for the past two years in HS and have no plans to change in near future.
Athletically - I work very hard on and off the field. I consider baseball a full time sport and work hard to maintain and improve upon the progress I have made throughout my time in the sport. My father would say - "Ian, you have incrementally improved every season you have played ball and you have not stopped. That is the sign that you are coachable, dedicated, loyal and a value to any team." - but he is my dad !! I think that I have just enjoyed baseball so much that I have naturally narrowed my focus on the sport and positions where I excel and have physically grown most comfortable. I have played every position each helping me understand the game a little better every time. Catching especially helped my pitching and my understanding of the infield - where I now focus. Ultimately, I have found that being able to contribute to my teams success is probably the most important and rewarding thing.
It is difficult for me to talk about my character but I have been described as "loyal, kind, dedicated, fair minded, and focused with a touch of sarcasm mixed in". I think I am pretty funny ! My dad tells me that I have a "gregarious" nature and people like me - I just think that I am me and dont really think about it too much. My mom would say that I am "sweet" and "handsome" - whatever.
I guess the bottom line is that I am a pretty good guy that has grown into a smart ball player who has a focus on continued improvement in an environment that is serious but fun at the same time.
