Personal Statement
My name is Finn Pressl, and I am in Deerfield High School’s class of 2020. My earliest memories of sports are waiting for school to be over so I could play baseball, basketball or football. As the clock ticked toward school dismissal, I would start getting more and more excited to get outside and play. I love competition, so I thrive on the competitive nature of sports, and my life has revolved around sports since earlier than I can remember. I am looking to keep playing sports in college because I’ve seen how sports helps me in school by keeping me motivated. I feel I’ve learned a lot about my mind and my body through sports. The last few years I’ve focused on loosening up, enjoying the game, and letting the experience of playing my entire life take over. I’ve learned how to react to situations, and if something is stressful, I take a step back and trust my instincts. A thing that is true about me on any team I play on is I can be counted on. I love competitive pressure situations, and I am proud that I can be counted on to deliver in those situations. I drive myself crazy to be better everyday, and even though I can never be perfect it is exciting to keep pushing myself and improve. My coaches like me because I set an example, I never give up and I always push myself. My baseball coach said to me last year that I would “run through concrete catch a ball” because I’m so determined. Any position you put me in, you know I will give my all. Of course, winning is the best feeling, and I can be counted on to get us that win. I am looking to play baseball in college not only because I love being an athlete but because I’ve learned about myself that I need that competitive outlet to spur me on both athletically and academically. I would be a great addition to your program because I would give everything I am capable of, always push myself to be better, meet the high aspirations I have for myself, and contribute as a valuable team player.
