Personal Statement

From the moment I stepped on a baseball field, way back in coach pitch,  I knew I wanted to play baseball.  Over the years, I participated in other sports such as basketball, swimming, and cross country.   I always came back to baseball because I truly love this game.  I still run Cross Country, but I now do it to condition for baseball.  I spend my off season time working on agility, weight lifting,  and mental preparedness for the game.  I have always taken pride in my strengths on the field and in my ability to lead my team to success.  It is truly my passion.

As the son of a high school teacher, education and good grades have always been the number one priority.   I often use the same principles that I have learned on the baseball field in the classroom.   I believe my brain must exercise in order to be able to be at it's best.  Just like baseball,  I condition for my school work and even if a subject is difficult, I can rally, work hard, and make the grades I need to succeed and win in the end.    My teachers and coaches would describe me as dedicated, athletic, well rounded,  coachable and gentlemanly.  Most importantly, they all say that I have a very strong work ethic.  I pride myself on never giving up and handling myself as a gentleman.

Baseball is my passion, but I also pride myself on being well rounded and able to manage many endeavors at once.   I recently was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal and was named the Cancer Services of Gaston County Volunteer of the year for 2019. I am extremely proud of both of those amazing honors.   I am on the Varsity baseball team where I was named Captain this year.  I have been on a showcase baseball team of 4 years,  the Ashbrook student council, an officer for the Ashrook Interact Club,  a member of the Junior Civitans and the Gaston County Choral Ensemble.  I Volunteer at Cancer Services of Gaston County.   I have managed to do all of this as a high school underclassmen while maintaining good grades.   I feel these endeavors are training me to be a great college baseball player.   I know that college athletes must have a very strong work ethic.  My goal is to attend college to study business administration.  I feel this degree can open many doors and opportunities for me.

I am a 6'1",  215 lbs high school junior.   I am a right handed pitcher.  I play first and third base as well as right and left field.   I usually sit at 3rd or 4th in our batting line up.  I consider myself to be a very consistent, coachable player with a great attitude.   During my freshman year I earned the award of freshman of the year and played on both our JV and Varsity team.   My sophomore year I was on Varsity only as a starting pitcher, 1st and 3rd baseman.   One of my most proud moments happened during my sophomore year.   I sustained an injury in a car accident and my high school coach was very cautious with my health.  In order to keep me in the game, he had me play as DH only for several games.   Despite that injury and the pressure of not helping my team defensively,  I still managed to hit well enough to be named to the All Tournament team in our county.   I worked through that injury mentally and physically and still managed to succeed and become a stronger player mentally and physically.   Prior to this season being suspended I served as Captain on the Varsity team.

In conclusion,  I want college coaches to know that I am worth their time.  I am very dedicated to being a better student, a better baseball player, and a better team mate each and every day.
