Personal Statement

Hi, I am Austin Nelson.  My passion has always been baseball.  My next goal is to play college baseball at a high level.

I am looking forward to my Senior season in high school, as a four-year varsity starter. In 2022, my high school won 4A league, and I enjoyed the opportunity to experience playoffs.  In 2023 we made the playoffs again, and won our first game.  During summer 2023 I had a great two-way season with my club, hitting over .300 and pitching with a 1.3 ERA.

This offseason, I will be working 4X/week training at Driveline to improve my hitting and pitching velocity.   My club program has helped improve my HP tests, leading to more power and velo.  I have gained 30 pounds since the summer of 2022 with proper nutrition, working out, and staying committed to my training program. I love to work, and the results show on the field.

I am strong academically and I work hard at maintaining good grades and look forward to continuing my education in college. It is important for coaches to know that they can trust in me.

  • 05/29/2023 - National Showcase - Redmond, WA Austin is a solid, athletic 3B/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 3B, defensive abilities are solid as he displays clean / smooth actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork as he works to square ground balls and plays through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents out front. He utilizes his foot quickness (7.08 60 time) in covering a lot of ground. Throws are accurate with carry (83 mph velocity) across the diamond. At the plate, he continues to shine, displaying outstanding hitting abilities with well above average power potential through a tall setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Lower half works well through the swing with an aggressive hip turn. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-78 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Austin has a lot of potential and will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game. Class Rating: 5

Training

  • Driveline Academy
  • 1 year
  • I have been training 4X per week @ Driveline for 2.5 hours each since October 2022. I typically go in 1 to 2X more per week for optional hitting. Big emphasis on increasing bat speed and exit velo, ramping up arm strength through the throwing program over the course of months and lifting - strength phase, agility phase. High performance assessments each month. This is the best training I have ever had as a player. Continually improving my PRs.
