I can remember from the age of five, my mother worked and attended school while keeping me active. She was a single mother at the time. Both my grandmother and great grandmother would make the two hour trip every weekend to attend my performances and church to help my mother get time needed to study. Over the years, she has taught me to keep my faith and trust in God, remember accountability provides opportunity for growth, and put my dreams before excuses from myself or anyone else. My mother sacrificed a lot for me to get opportunities to grow and see the sports I love performed by some of the best athletes. Her support and encouragement to dance, cheer, and tumble made it easy for me to fall in love with cheer.
When I was seven I attended a tumbling class, thinking it was a dance class. My potential was noticed by the instructors and she encouraged me to stay and observe the class. She told my mother my tumbling would be a natural talent because of my dynamic and powerful upper body strength and control.During my time with the tumbling team, skills were learned and I became a proficient tumbler. A year of tumbling with the team was led by this unexpected turn of events, and ultimately an invitation to join the intermediate group. My dedication and commitment to the sport were recognized by the coaches, which led to an invitation to join the advance group after a couple of months. In conclusion, what initially started as a misunderstanding turned out to be a life-changing experience for me.
After my first year on a competitive team, I realized that I was extremely hard on myself, always striving for everything I do to be perfect; whether it is on the sports field or in any other aspect of my life, everything must be perfect. As I have grown in my sport, I have come to understand that perfection is an unrealistic expectation. One of the most important lessons is the importance of just striving to give positive energy and put everything out there. It is equally important to approach every rehearsal or performance with a positive mindset. My potential is maximized when I create a positive and supportive environment for myself and my team.
Academic goals for high school are to focus on achieving academic excellence and setting a strong foundation for my future career in medicine. I plan to raise my GPA from a 3.5 to a 4.0, have at least 6 hours of college credit completed by 2026, and master my remaining state standardized tests. Ultimately, my goal is to receive a cheer scholarship. A cheer scholarship will enable me to attend college and pursue a medical degree.
