Personal Statement
My name is Nora Verhoff and I am currently an uncommited Junior at Northern Highlands Regional High School in Allendale, NJ. I am 5'5" and weigh 127 pounds. I've been playing field hockey since a very young age. When I entered my freshman year at Highlands and tried out for the team my coach saw my potential. He pulled me up our first scrimmage to play right back and from that point on I would play for the varsity team.
Our team has been very succesfull the past few years and earned our 5th consecutive Bergen County Championship. Next year as Captain and MVP, I plan to lead my team to our 6th County-title and push us even further in the states tournament. My personal successes include 1st Team All-County, 1st Team All-League, and 2nd Team All-North Jersey my junior year season and 2nd Team All-County and All-League my sophomore season.
Originally, I never thought I had what it takes to play at the varsity collegiate level. My club experience was never competitive and I used it strictly to improve my skills and to continue my passion off season. However, in the past year or so I've realized that I could not give up playing the sport competively in college and have decided I need a new attitude.
I have changed to playing for a more competitive club team, U-19 Vikingz, who I went down to Disney with this past winter. Spring training starts in April but I have taken it upon myself to get a gym membership and personal trainer. I am excersing on daily basis to get myself into the best possible shape preparing myself for the collegiate level of training.
In the past few years of playing I have learned how important a positive attitude, dedication, and passion is. I hope to bring these important qualities to either a DI, DII, or DIII school. I don't have any definite preferences of size of a school or location but I would must prefer to play at a school that is academically challenging.
Since freshman year I have been taking many advanced courses and I'm thrilled to continue this type of schedule next year. As of right now, I have scheduled AP Psychology, AP Government, AP Statistics and Probability, AP Environmental Science, Honors Humanities, Honors Model United Nations, and Honors Tomorrow's Teachers for my senior schedule. Depending on the scheduling, I may however have to take SUPA Spanish instead of Honors Model United Nations.
