Personal Statement

Hello, My name is Jalen Camp from San Francisco, California. I am on the Varsity football team at Archbishop Riordan High School not to far from my house. I been playing football since I was 7 years old and fell in love with the game ever since. All my youth years of playing I’ve played both sides of the ball as running back and switched off between strong safety and linebacker. As of right now I am playing running back still and strong safety. My mom, dad, and all my coaches as I was growing up always told me, “you have to be a student before you can be an athlete”. When I was younger I didn’t really know what they meant, but when I got older and progressed I started understanding it better, and I believe it’s true. If you don’t have the grades there is basically no use of playing sports or doing what you love outside of academcis. Your grades are going to get you where you need to be on life and football is just a privelege. I am a type of teammate to lift one another up and get my teammates better. I get my teammates better by going a thousand percent in each drill so the whole team can benefit. I feel like if you don’t execute during practice you’re going to be off when game day approaches and that is going to effect the way you play. I hold encountable for all my teammates if they miss practice, workouts, film, chalk talk, and more. I feel that I am responsible to make sure everybody shows up to practice under any circumstance which their safety is not involved. I play that leader role of the team and even off the field. I feel like your character has to be on point too and you have to treat others with respect and loyalty. You also have to be humble in whatever you do. Never forget where you came from and never forget the people who help you get this far. I use that to get me to the next level and to make me better as a student, an athlete, and even a person. I want to take football to the next level. I want to play D1 football in a couple years and even beyond that to the big league. I’m going to grind until I get there.
