Personal Statement
I wasn't able to play football until the 7th grade because in New Haven there were no elementary school teams, and I was above the weight limit for the Pop Warner Team. But from the first time I put that helmet on I knew that Football was something I would love to pursue a career in, either as a player or a coach or general manager. I would like to Major in Sports Management, or Sports Journalism. I currently have a 4.144 GPA and rank 9th in my class out of 97 kids. I also like to pride myself on my work ethic. I know I'm not the prototype 6'6" 300 pound lineman. So I had to learn to get over the fact that I will never grow to be that tall, it's just genetically almost impossible at this point in my life. So I have to beat everyone who's taller and bigger than me another way. With my work ethic and my football I.Q. I am in the weight-room 3-4 times a week for around 4 hours each time. I also go to fields and get some running and drills in when it's possible. I work to be able to dominate my opponent and it shows on the field and on film when I am dominating players taller and bigger than me. I also use my football I.Q. to dominate opponents. Making sure I use the correct footwork and understand where the defense is going to flow so I can meet my block at the right angle.
I believe I am a great teammate and team player. I always put the team first and any individual accolades are just extra to me. I lead not only by talking but by example which in my opinion is more important because as I am entering my senior season I have the opportunity to be a captain and all of the underclassmen will act how I act so setting a good example is key. I also believe that a Teams wins and loses as a team. I try to embody that motto every day I weight lift, practice and play in games. I can't imagine my life without football because my coaches and the game itself has instilled values in me. How to be a team player, how to work through tough times, how to be a man. Without football I wouldn't be the person I am today.
