Personal Statement
To Whom It May Concern:
My name is Darren Charles Moses, and I will be entering my junior year at Florida Christian School in Miami, Florida. I have started on the varsity football team at mostly center for three years, since my eighth grade year. I have been called upon however to play all positions on the offensive line. I have been named a team captain for this upcoming season. I am looking forward to playing two more years of football where I know I will grow physically and mentally with the assistance of the great coaches I have. The same can be said of my growth as a student as I look to attain more knowledge and continue to grow academically and spiritually with the guidance of my teachers. My parents will also be instrumental in helping me grow in the classroom, on the field, and off the field as they help me grow socially and become a productive member of society.
Attending college or university is a huge and attainable goal I have set for myself. In fact there is no other option but to attend an institution of higher learning. Football can be a means for me to attain a scholarship and gain entrance into a college or university. I will have the best of two worlds, academic and extracurricular. I will be getting a great education and I will be able to play a sport I love will doing so. Playing collegiate football is undoubtedly a goal of mine that I strive to achieve every day. I want to not just play at the collegiate level, but I want to be a starter and an important part of a team and program. Winning is important; however, I also want to be part of a culture of family, one that has moral and ethics, will help me attain my goals after my playing days have ended, and a school and program that will help me grow and become a man.
I am hard worker, an intelligent player who understands the game, and a leader who leads by example rather than barking out a bunch or orders. I am a "blue-collar" player. I seek to learn all I can about the game, and I am eager to give that knowledge to my teammates. I am most definitely not a "me first" type of player. I am the ultimate team player. I greatly value winning and the concepts of team play over individual accolades and honors. I want the team to win, not just me. I do not seek the spotlight; I want to play my position the best I can, help my teammates, and do what it takes for the entire team to win and be successful. I am a tireless worker who understand that all the running, film study, weight training, and other necessary components must be done beyond what is asked to be great. I am a Christian person who has high moral and ethical standards. This has been instilled in me by my parents and high school coaches.
I like to help others achieve success, and I love succeeding as part of a team, something greater than myself. I am willing to put in work on and off the field. I am fully aware of how important it is to attain a good education, especially in college. This is where we learn and get the skills and knowledge we need to have careers once we graduate. Finally, I understand the importance of appearances and conducting myself in a fashion that admirably and appropriately represents the college of university I attend and play for. This includes one's behavior, speaking correctly, and understanding how to conduct oneself and what to say or not say in different situations. One must exhibit and have good character that make my professors, coaches, administrators, and family proud. My dad has told me, "It isn't what you do when people are looking, but what you do when they aren't looking."
I am confident that I can handle the rigors of being a collegiate student-athlete. I want to excel in the classroom and on the football field. I know I can help your institution on and off the field, and I would love the opportunity to do this at your college or university.
