I am a student-athlete. A athlete to me is someone that can adapt to anything, someone that is persistent, someone that fights for that 1st place, and someone that fights for their team. I'm not going to lie and act as if I've always been on the winning team because I haven't. The teams I have been on aren't the best but I know better than anyone what it means to be apart of a team. We have lost many times and to some, it might be discouraging but to me, it makes that next victory of any kind that much more worth it. Those losses with my team have made me a better player mentally than any number of victories could have. It makes you work that much harder in practice to do better, to be better. The saying practice makes perfect is false, there's no such thing as perfection but instead with practice comes persistence. Winning is nice but it's not where champions are made.
I have played football all my life. I grew up in Texas so that within itself explains it and I sure wouldn't have it any other way. On a team or just for fun, every chance I get to make a catch, make an interception, or make that one good play that you can't stop thinking about, I'm reminded of how I'd pick football over anything else. Not once in my life have I ever had this much passion to be great. So I will not let go of that passion because I know what I want. Many other people want that same thing but the difference is when they give up and put their hands on their knees and tell themselves they can't do it. I'm going to be standing tall with my head high and you better believe I will not fall.
But before any of that, I'm a student. Hence why it's called being a student-athlete. Just like sports, academics is also one of my strengths. In the classroom, I'm a quiet student, but I am always listening and paying attention to everything going on around me. I want to be an overachiever in any class I'm in. For the entirety of my education, I've been in all Accelerated classes or AP classes. I don't like to settle with mediocre classes, I'll take the challenge over the easy way through.
So every year when football season comes around, expect to see me with my cleats, pads, gloves, and helmet on ready for another season.
