Personal Statement
Hi, Coach, my name is Alec Wardenburg and I am a Sr. at Christian Brothers College High school in St. Louis, Missouri. I play MLB and special teams and for our 2014 campaign I was elected Team Captain. I know I have what it takes to help your team win. I have been playing football since I was 7 years old, and I have always wanted to play in college while getting my degree at the same time. I plan to major in either Engineering or Wildlife management or some combination of the two and I have a 3.7 GPA. I have a goal of playing football in college, but I also want to serve my country so I am very interested in ROTC opportunities.My family has been the most influential part of my life. I cannot remember a game or practice my Father missed and my Grandparents have never missed a game either. With their support, I have stayed on track on the field, but more importantly in the classroom and in the community.I knew I loved football at an early age. After my very first season playing football at the age of seven, my Father and I were driving past the stadium one day. I turned to him and said, “Dad, I got a funny feeling in my stomach and I really miss playing football.” He turned to me and said, “Alec, that feeling is love for the sport and it can take you many places if you honor it.” I have never forgotten that day or that advice.Football has played a huge role in who I have become as a person. Through the vicissitudes of the sport, I have learned valuable life lessons. None more important than the value of teamwork and laying yourself down and giving everything you have for your teammates. My character and leadership skills developed on the field and honed in life.I pride myself on my motor, my understanding of the game, and my ability to make adjustments based on recognizing what teams are trying to do to us offensively. I communicate well with my coaches and I take coaching with great respect. I am a leader on and off the field serving as a student ambassador and Freshman Mentor.It would be my honor to visit with you more about my talents and skills and what I can bring to your school.
