Personal Statement
Greetings,
My name is Samad Ilyaas Muhammad.
Do you know the difference between a beast and a butterfly? Well, there is no difference because I am both!
A beast on the football field, which has been my home since the age of 5 years. My years as a football player have taught me leadership skills, one example is peer pressure to use drugs and drink alcohol. Being a leader I have chosen not to walk that beaten path but instead encourage my peers to do the same, be leaders. Choosing their own postive paths rather than follow someone else. On the football field I'm known as the "hype man". Encouraging my teammates to get pumped for a game. Yelling positives messages, pushing the level of intensity in practice, whatever it takes to turn us up a notch. Another skill is communication. One has to have the ability to communicate on and off the field. In talking with teammates on the field and in my day to day interactions with students and teachers. Having the ability to successfully covey my thoughts and ideas is a big key to winning in any situation .Lastly, the skill of listening. It is important not only to hear the message but filter out the distractions
and follow through successfully. On the field there is a lot of excitement and if you are not in tune with a coaches directions or a teachers it could cost you a grade or a great play.
I am also a butterfly, strumming a delicate instrument as the violin, since the age of 8; or plucking the strings of a guitar I'm learning to play this year, describes my extreme versatility as a football player. I am eager to meet with coaches that are interested in enhancing my versatile nature on the field, by developing my talents and skills in becoming a great athlete.
This summer I volunteered with the Salvation Army, assisting with a lunch program (Monday - Friday) for more than 250 families in the North Omaha community. This service is the largest meal program in the state of Nebraska. I also volunteered with Winners Edge Church, an outreach program for residents in nursing homes. This year my plan is to work work with youth in an after school reading program, as well as Habitat for Humanity with housing developments.
In looking back on my formative years, I attended schools from California to North Carolina. These experiences have prepared me to successfully adapt to changing circumstances. Staying on my path of education and athletics. I am now, embarking on a great journey of change in my Senior year. On this journey, I look forward to attending a college that will speak to my needs as a leader, a beast and a butterfly.
Thank you for viewing my profile and I look forward to hearing from you.
