I just finished my senior year as the starting QB at Western Reserve Academy, in Hudson, Ohio. I was a two-year captain and four-year starter. I am a 6'2", 185 pound, four sport varsity athlete and will graduate with 12 varsity letters in four different sports; football, wrestling, track and lacrosse. I am an athlete.
I received the Coaches Award in track my sophomore year and MVP of the wrestling team as a junior. I was selected as a captain of the football team my junior year and football, track and wrestling teams my senior year. Recently, I was awarded Western Reserve's highest athletic honor; the Gold Medal Award.
The Gold medal honors a senior varsity athlete who has dominated his or her sport at all levels of competition and has received recognition from outside the school community. In addition to athletic accomplishments, the recipient is a positive role model for the Reserve community and has shown a proven commitment to Reserve, both on and off the field. The award is determined by all varsity head coaches. I am only the 20th football player to receive the award in the last 65 years.
I would like to play football at a college or university where I will have the most impact and get a great education to prepare me for the rest of my life. After college, I would like to go to law school or join the military and serve my country as a Navy SEAL or an Army Ranger. In college, I want to major in criminal justice or intelligence and pursue a career in the FBI, the CIA, or the Secret Service.
The decision to move to Ohio to attend a boarding school wasn't easy. WRA is a high academic school and one of the top boarding schools in the country. Students compete from all over the world to get in here. I was recruited out of middle school to change the football program at Reserve. I could have stayed in Northern Virginia, attended a great school, lived at home, and played for a 6A, two-time state championship football program with my friends. Instead I chose to go to a high academic school with a football program that hadn't had a winning season in years, where I had the opportunity to be part of building a winning program, not just being part of one. Last season, as the starting QB, we had our most successful season since 2008. We were 6-3. This year we finished 5-3. We did what I was brought there to do. We built a winning program with back-to-back winning seasons.
Building a winning program wasn't easy. We had to change the culture on campus and get the players to buy in to the idea that the game is about more than winning. It's about understanding that life is not about you, it's about the men in your huddle. It's about serving others, moving the chains on and off the field, and having a passion for doing what others are not so that others can get what they need. I had to model leadership, hard work, put my teammates first, be willing to sacrifice for them, and be a winner all the time in everything I did. Only then did we start winning. I also had to be willing to be a backup and play other positions; something I've never done before. As a freshman, I started at FS and played backup to a senior QB. My sophomore year, I started at WR and LB and played backup to a post graduate. I led the team in receptions and TDs, and when I was in as a QB, I outplayed the starter. This year, I played both ways.
I know I have the presence and capability to represent a program with character and integrity. I am a dual-threat QB, can make all the throws on time and have a strong and accurate arm. I am smart, instinctive, well trained and have the ability to extend play in and out of the pocket. I am looking for an opportunity to be part of building a great program and getting a great education. I want to be part of that same experience in college.
