During my freshman year, I earned my varsity letter by practicing hard and showing the coaches my ability. My goal is to better myself in order to play at the collegiate level.
My sophomore season will be my 9th year of playing football. I have tried other sports such as soccer and basketball, but I never felt these sports were as challenging, rewarding, or fun as football. I had the opportunity to continue playing youth football due to my young age or to play for the high school which would be challenging and hard. The high school coaches encouraged me to move up and play JV for the high school because they saw my potential.
This is the first year my team didn’t make the playoffs. This has taught me that I need to focus on playing the best I can and trying to encourage my teammates to do their best. When I was on the field, I tried my best even when others gave up. I have learned the importance of leadership and teamwork through this experience. I understand the value of continuing to work hard and push myself to do better even when things are going bad.
I started Track & Field in my 8th grade year. I was invited to the Cedar Cliff Relays and placed 1st in discus. All season, I had only thrown shot put and had never participated in discus. The day of the event, a teammate that was entered for discus was suddenly unable to attend the invitational and the coach asked me to fill in. While waiting for the bus, the coach taught me how to throw discus. I placed first in discus that day. I learned that trying as hard as I can in anything, even if it is something new, will lead to success.
I am proud of my academic abilities and my goal is to be inducted into the National Honor Society in my sophomore year. My academics are just as important to me as my athletics. I will continue to work hard to maintain my grades to be successful.
