Personal Statement
Ever since I could remember, I was active in sports. Starting out with soccer, baseball, basketball, golf, football, and even floor hockey when I was young. As I grew up I began to focus on basketball and football and this year, my junior year, I decided to focus strictly on football to have the best chance to achieve my dream of being a college long snapper.
I began playing football when I was in 5th grade and have played all the way through my junior year and next year my senior year. In 5th and 6th grades, due to my size, I played the offensive and defensive line, hardly leaving the field. My 7th grade year I was eligible to try out for the middle school team, known as the b-team in my area. I made it as a wide receiver and linebacker; we went 5-1. The next year I wanted a shot at quarterback and I won the starting job. We went 3-3. My Freshman year I again played quarterback and outside linebacker, playing both ways a majority of our games. My sophomore year I switched back to wide receiver and also played tight end depending on the play call. It was in my sophomore year that I learned to long snap. Knowing I was a former quarterback, our coaches thought it would be easy for me to pick up. I started and fell in love with it. I practiced and practiced and got good enough to start over 3 other kids competing for the job. My sophomore year I played both varsity and junior varsity, earning a varsity letter. It was a big accomplishment for me and it felt good knowing that my dad was looking over me. My father died of esophageal cancer in March of my freshman year. It was a low moment in my life, but it has forced me to work harder than ever and become more responsible and mature.
My goal is to be recruited to play football at the next level. I want to long snap and prove my toughness and leadership on and off the field. I work hard in the classroom, in the weight room, and on the field. I am involved in my community and constantly strive to be seen as a role model by others. I feel I am different because I am more mature than others and am more accepting of responsibility than others. Sacrifice is ultimate in being a part of a team and playing for the man besides you is what matters to me and that is what I plan to do.
