Personal Statement
I want to make a difference in this world and a college scholarship is the vehicle to make this a reality for me. I have always known that I was going to college even before I knew what that really meant. Both of my parents are college graduates and ingrained this truth in me practically from birth. I can recall going on trips with my family and if there was a university along the way we would always drive by and my parents would point it out and tell me that’s where I would go to school one day. We still do this today by incorporating university visits in to our vacation plans.
My parents are also both very athletic and began introducing me to sports at the age of 4 when I began studying Tae Kwon Do and gymnastics. I began playing football at the age of 6 and instantly found my place. I learned to be humble in defeat through several winless seasons. This motivated me to become a better player and a student of the game. I wanted to learn everything I could about football and being a linebacker. I’m an avid reader and my hunger for knowledge led me to read books like Friday Night Lights, When Pride Mattered, and Captain for life by Harry Carson. Harry’s storied career has been very inspiring for me and I aspire to be as ferocious a linebacker as he was. I also like the old school defenders. Ronnie Lott, Steve Atwater, and Derrick Thomas are among my most favorite players. I strive to improve my level of play at every opportunity.
Education is very important to me. I have been an Honor Roll student, and taken AP courses. In 2011 I was selected by the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP) to take the SAT as a 7th Grader. I scored 1250 and enjoyed the experience. I am hoping to dramatically improve my score the next time I take it. I currently have a 3.33 GPA. I value my family and traditions as well. I am looking for a university that is steeped in tradition, highly regarded academically, and has a strong reputation for taking care of its players on and off the field. I want to be a strong personal example to everyone. I work hard to be morally straight and I have developed an unquestionable work ethic on the field, at school, and in the weight room. I demand excellence of myself and want to surround myself with like minded people.
