Personal Statement
It’s an honor to introduce myself, my name is Kennan Samuel and I am a student-athlete attending Mckinney High School in McKinney, TX. and will be graduating with the Class of 2014. I am first and foremost a student who values education and want to succeed academically. I believe by committing to be the best student I can be in the classroom will also result in becoming the best football player I can be outside the classroom. I love the game of football and give my coaches & teammates 100% every time I step out on the field. Nominated 3 consecutive years (Soph, Jr & Sr. year) as a Varsity team captain and I take a lot of pride in the hard work I put in on the field to serve as an example to my coaches and teammates. My passion lies on the defensive side of the ball where I have received Texas 10-5A All-District Honors. As a 1st team starter on Varsity my Soph, Junior & Senior seasons, I have played strong side & weak defensive end where my coaches instructed me to set the edge aggressively with discipline. Although I play with my hand on the ground in our defensive scheme, I welcome the transition to linebacker at the next level which allows me to stand up and use more of my athleticism. Of course where ever I'm needed to play and help my team is always ok with me. Attached to my profile are highlights from Soph, Junior seasons. In addition, here are a couple of links which captures some live action video from my Junior year and midway through my Senior season: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me2ohrMP8vs (Junior Yr.) and http://youtu.be/N0Q8ETBoY_I (Mid-season Senior Yr.) As a student-athlete, my highlights still may not fully exemplify the person I am until you meet me. As a returning Varsity team captain my Senior year, I am determined even more to setting higher standards for myself in the classroom & on the football field. My plan is finish strong as a student athlete at McKinney High School and obtain a scholarship from a college or university which will allow to continue playing the game of football which I love so much while also achieving academically. I realize there is another level after college football but I believe if I just focus on helping my college coaches/teammates win a conference championship while trying to become the best college player at whatever position I play, then the rest will take care of itself.
