Named Jan. 4, 2016 to the Rick Bolus Top Seniors List for 2015-16
My goal is to play the highest level of basketball possible while earning a meaningful degree in marketing or business. I have played varsity basketball since my freshman year. Both in my freshman and sophomore years, I led the team in overall shooting percentage and free throw shooting percentage. In my freshman year, I qualified for the regional 3-point contest. In my sophomore year, I also was second on the team for blocked shots and rebounds. In my junior year, I was named First Team All Conference and Best Defensive Player.
With my AAU team, World Class Basketball Association, we won the 16U Illinois State Championship in the spring of 2014. I have attended AAU Nationals four consecutive years. In 2013, we finished in the Final Four at DIII Nationals in Virginia. In 2014, we finished second in our bracket at DI Nationals in Louisville. I have attended several Elite Camps and the Rick Bolus Blue Chip Chicago Showcase in which I earned the Top Rebounder Award.
There is no off-season for me. I train or play all year long. I condition, practice or play nearly every day. I've enjoyed intense one-on-one training with a former NBA player. I also work hard academically to maintain a 3.54 GPA while taking honors classes and participating in the SADD club at my school. I'm also a charter member of Blue Streaks Committed, a group committed to making and promoting healthy lifestyle choices and supporting other WHS teams and programs.
The summer before my senior year, I tore my ACL and meniscus during an AAU tournament in Milwaukee. I had surgery a few weeks later and spent the next six months rehabbing and recovering. I was cleared to play again two-thirds of the way through my senior season. While it was tough to be resigned to the bench during games, I continued to contribute to my team in every way I could and did whatever my coach asked. As I look to close out my senior year on a positive note on the court with my teammates, I've gained a much-appreciated perspective that I'll take with me to the college level and beyond.
