Basketball is my passion, and I dream of being able to play in college. As a player, I have always been known to quickly adapt to my role on a team. In some cases, I have been known on a team for my scoring and ability to create shots for others, whereas on other teams I take on the role of the scrappy hustler and defender. Many coaches would describe me as a player who has an undesirable will to improve every day, and I think they would highlight my leadership and strong basketball fundamentals. I have always seen myself as a student of the game, and when not on the court, I can usually be found seated next to my coach trying to gather every piece of knowledge that I can. I view my strengths as my court awareness, my on- and off-ball defense, my three-point shot, as well as my leadership and the enthusiasm I always bring to the court. Some of this clearly developed from physically maturing later than my peers and generally being one of the smallest and youngest guys on the court (my birthday is in May). Fortunately, I have grown 7 inches in the last year (and now top 6 feet), and the doctors say that I have a few more inches in me. At the very least, I know I still have a lot of muscle to add to my less developed frame. I started at shooting guard this past season on the varsity team at Lake Forest Academy. We finished 13-8, and I really came on strong at the end averaging 15 points per game over the last 7 games. I am playing a full AAU season this spring and summer for Fundamental U, and am looking forward to a strong senior year. At this point, I am still trying to figure out what I am looking for in a college, but I know I am a student first, and so I want a school where I can combine my love of basketball with a strong academic setting. I have always taken my academics seriously as evidenced by my 3.6/4.0 gpa and a rigorous class schedule including two A.P. classes as a junior (AP Chemistry and AP U.S. History) and four more APs planned as a senior (AP Calculus, AP Physics, AP Language (English) and AP Statistics). In the end, I am hopeful I can pursue my passion for basketball while preparing myself for a career in engineering or business.
