Hello, my name is William Burnside. In my personal statement I am going to talk about why I chose basketball as my sport; who I am as a player; my goals for basketball; and a short bit on me as a person. I started playing basketball in kindergarten and took an immediate liking to the game. At this time I was still playing football as well and also enjoyed that game. But slowly basketball began to overshadow my love of football, this led to me dropping football in the 7th grade in order to focus on basketball. This turned out to be a great decision because I have fallen in love with the game of basketball. I love the game because of the culture, how competitive the game is, and because in my experience basketball teams build a great community and brotherhood.
As a player I am very competitive and love to win. There is nothing quite like the feeling of winning a well matched game. In order to win that game it requires tons of effort and hustle both of which I am very good at. While I have never been the quickest or most athletic guy on the court, I make up for that with great shooting, effort, and decision making. One of the most important things to know about me as a player is that I am very ambitious, and in order for me to achieve my ambitions it is going to take a lot of work. I acknowledge this and accept the challenge, a typical day for me is a 615 am dribbling workout at the ymca, followed by a basketball workout at school whether this be conditioning or just a shoot around. Then after school I go to the gym to lift weights. Lastly I take an ice bath and repeat. I do all of this in hopes of achieve my dream which is to make an impact at any level of collage basketball.
All of these things are very important to me but it is also to have balance in life. Other than basketball some things that I love to do are hang out with my family and friends, read, and go to youth group and church.
-Thank you for reading about me
Sincerely William Burnside
