Dear Coaches,
I hope this message finds you well. My name is Gavin Dean, a dedicated basketball player from the Class of 2027, and I am excited to share my journey and aspirations with you. My goal is to play college basketball, ultimately reaching the professional level. Alongside my passion for the game, I hold a deep interest in pursuing a career in either engineering or medicine.
Collegiate Goals and Aspirations: Playing college basketball has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I started Upward in Iowa when I was 5 years old and have played ever since. The camaraderie, competition, and the opportunity to continue developing my skills at the collegiate level are aspects of the game that fuel my ambition. Beyond college, my sights are set on a professional career, and I am committed to putting in the work necessary to make that dream a reality.
Why I am a Good Candidate: I bring more than just athletic prowess to the table. What sets me apart is a unique combination of character, academic dedication, and a growth mindset. On the court, my high basketball IQ, resilience, and discipline are evident in my daily training routines. Many coaches see me as the "big guy" as I have been the biggest player with all of my teams until this past year. However, I have much more to offer than just being the center-big guy. Off the court, my commitment to academic excellence is reflected in my 8th-grade Iowa Standardized Test scores (Reading 13+, Math 10.3, ELA 13+, Social Studies 13+, Science 13+). I understand the importance of balancing sports and academics, and I believe that excelling in both areas is a testament to my ability to manage my time effectively.
What Makes Me Different:
Character: My character is built on a foundation of integrity, maturity, and a positive team-first attitude. I am known for encouraging teammates, contributing positively to team culture, and quickly adapting to new challenges. Being coachable is not just a trait for me; it's a commitment to constant improvement. You'll see in many of my videos that I am often working with the likes of Peyton Siva, Quentin Snider, or my dad.
Academics: The pursuit of knowledge is a cornerstone of my life. While I thrive on the court, my academic achievements demonstrate my dedication to intellectual growth. My interest in engineering and medicine speaks to my long-term commitment to academics beyond the basketball court. I have attended many schools and was homeschooled. Much of my time has been learning with Abeka curriculum. I appreciate that I have had the opportunity to learn with such a rigorous curriculum.
Collegiate Goals and Beyond: In college, I aspire to contribute not only as an athlete but also as a leader on and off the court. My adaptability, discipline, and problem-solving skills are qualities I believe will positively impact the team dynamic. I aim to be a student-athlete who not only excels in the game but also serves as a role model for my peers.
Closing Thoughts: I am more than just a recruit; I am a student-athlete with a clear vision of my future. My dedication to the game, combined with my academic pursuits in engineering or medicine, reflects a well-rounded individual eager to make a lasting impact.
I appreciate your time and consideration. I am eager to contribute to the success of your team while pursuing my academic and athletic goals. Thank you for the opportunity, and I look forward to the possibility of being a part of your program.
Sincerely,
Gavin Dean Class of 2027
