Personal Statement
I started playing basketball 11 years ago. Ever since I stepped on the court at six years old, I knew it was my passion. I loved the excitement and the thrill of the game.
By playing basketball I have learned that I am a strong leader, I developed an ability to communicate well with others on the court and in the classroom. I learned that to be successful in life I need to be selfless, and to respect my coach and my teammates.
My academic goals for high school and college include excelling in the classroom and learning all that I can. I will maintain my 3.6 GPA while taking many AP and accelerated classes. I will continue to learn and develop professionally in the Communication Media and Public Policy Magnet program at Skyline high School. In college I plan to major in communications and I hope to pursue a career in broadcasting upon graduation.
I have had many strong influences in my life including my parents and coaches. By always expecting me to do my best and demanding that I put work before play, my parents have helped me develop a strong work ethic on the court and in the classroom. My coaches have taught me to play my hardest and give my all, every single play on the court. They have also taught me to always respect their authority and listen to their ideas.
When I started AAU ball as a 10 year old, I tried out for a great team but I didn’t know anyone and no one knew me. I had to work my way up from sitting on the bench to being a starter thru hard work and determination. I began my high school academic and athletic career at a school where I didn’t know anyone. I worked hard and made Varsity as a Sophomore and am starting as a Junior.
I possess a rare combination of passion and talent, seasoned with leadership and athletic ability. I am a versatile player who has played all positions from point to 5.
