My name is Breckin Cicalo and I am 12 years old and in the sixth grade. I started playing basketball when I was four years old. I started training with an amazing coach which started my obsession with basketball. I am drawn to basketball and wherever I go, I have a ball in my hands. When my family goes on vacation I bring a ball and I find a court.
I believe in doing my absolute best in everything. At school, I study hard and have a 4.0 GPA. I was just invited into the National Junior Honor Society, (NJHS) at my middle school. Only students achieving a 3.9 GPA or higher are invited. The same is true when I’m playing basketball. My coaches describe me as having heart and displaying toughness on the court. I’m not afraid to dive and scramble for loose balls. I’m always hustling. I love attending basketball camps to improve my game. The past two summers I’ve been named “Mr. Hustle” at the Tom Izzo Basketball Camp at Michigan State University. Players and coaches remember me, even give me nicknames.
My size is my most unique quality. I am a small player who people underestimate, until they have to guard me or watch me shoot over them. I am a strong shooter, especially from the three point range, with a high free throw percentage. I am strong with my non dominant hand as well. I have always played two grade levels up with my brother and my size has never been a problem. My size is what drives me.
To me, basketball is life. I like to watch basketball games to learn from other players. I emulate moves from NBA and college players and put them into my own game. I know that success in basketball and success in life requires constant practice, and I’m the type of student athlete that isn’t afraid to give it my all.
