Avery Kopcha '24 Recruiting Profile

The best times in my young life have been accomplishing goals with my teammates.  My teammates are my friends and there is no better feeling than winning with your friends.  I have been playing basketball since before I can remember.  My father was a college coach and player.  We are in the gym together every day working to help my school and AAU team.  Since I was in kindergarten my father had me come along to individual workouts he was conducting with older players and had me follow along behind them.  Now its my turn to be the focus of the workouts.

My AAU team(s) have given me some of my greatest memories and friendships.  This year our high school team has a tremendous opportunity to accomplish some amazing goals.  Each day since September I have worked out with our two returning senior starters and we are looking forward to a great season.  I have been fortunate enough to start for our Varsity all summer and even scored 27 points in our first summer league game against a large school.  Due to COVID restrictions recruiting has been limited but we have been very fortunate to hear from several colleges after AAU tournaments or camps.  After several of our AAU practices this summer my family hosted the team for a pool party and barbeque.

I am active in my church and youth group.   I was a class President in Middle School and was nominated for one of the highest service awards in our school.  Our Pastor's son is my best friend and I spend a great deal of time hanging out with him and my other friends playing ball or fishing.

The joy of being on a team is something I would like to continue in college.  To not only win on the court, but to do all the things to represent your family, school and team in a positive way.  I am only entering my freshman year of high school, but my father has shared with me the value that his college experience has given him in his personal and professional life.  My focus now is simply getting better at basketball, working hard to get good grades to open my options and work to help my team this season.
