Hi! My name is Jorge "Zab" Santana. I am from San Juan, Puerto Rico, but I am currently living in Cedar City, Utah. I started playing basketball since I was 6 years old. Since a young age my dream has been playing at a collegiate level, and I am determined to achieve that goal and I am working hard to allow me to have an opportunity to achieve it. I work hard on improving my athleticism, shooting and skills that will make me a better fit for the collegiate level. I also work hard on the student side while trying to obtain the highest GPA possible that will allow me to achieve my goal.
As a basketball player I feel like my strengths are attacking the basket and using my strength to create opportunities in the basketball court. I believe I have good vision and good abilities to create plays for others.
In the last 2 years of Varsity basketball I have learned a lot. My freshmen year I was a scorer and that was my main goal at all times. My sophomore year was a growing year, with a new coach with new expectations it was more of team ball and I learned how to be a team player. My stats lowered a bit, but are wins were doubled and we had an opportunity at state and made it to the quarterfinals.
As you already know I am from Puerto Rico. Basketball has taken me to a lot of places around the world. I have played in locations like all around the United States, Cuba and recently Brazil. Last year me and my parents made the decision of me coming to Utah for more exposure and more opportunities. After Hurricane Maria hit back home everything changed so we thought it would be the best for be. Now I'm in Cedar City looking to achieve my dream of playing basketball and getting college paid for.
I have played 3 times with the Puerto Rico National Team and we won once in the YBOA Nationals and third. Last year I was in the big stage in the U16 FIBA Americas Championship. It was one of the most fun experiences in my life and its made me work harder since I played against the best players from round the world.
I have really taken seriously working out this past year. I work 4 times a week of my athleticism and becoming stronger. I also work on my shooting, finishing around the basket and on creating shots.
I hope you can follow my process on becoming the best player I can be in the following years. I am considering studying to become a sports physician or a chiropractor.
Thank you for taking out of your time and reading this.
