My name is Gabriel Ronald Smith. I live in Truckee, CA. This is a small town in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This is a resort town so I have access to some of the best golf courses in CA when its not snowing. The local public high school that I attend is small with an average graduating class of 140 students. Living in the Sierra Nevada mountains has taught me to appreciate nature, and I am able to take advantage of all the recreation this area offers.
My future college goals are to attend a four year university. I would like to pursue a degree in broadcasting, political science or business administration. I also am interested in the law and will consider attending law school after earning my bachelor's degree. My greatest desire it to be able to play golf while persuing my academics at a college or university.
One reason a college or university would want me on their team is because of my attitude! Fortunately, I was born with some natural athletic talent, but what separates me from others is my intense self-motivation and determination. I am aware of my weakness, and therefore I work endless hours practicing to improve. I am also a team player, and understand the importance of sportsmanship. I am always willing to give advise to team mates, and continue to work on encouraging others. Being an athlete is about the team effort and the ability of the team members to motivate and encourage each other. I want to point out that I love sports, and I love to compete. I am also an avid basketball player, skier and tennis player.
I just finished my sophomore year at Truckee High School. Our golf season ended before it began because of Covid19. This was a huge disappointment. As a freshman at Truckee High School our golf team won the Division State Championships. This was a major success because the last time this happened at Truckee High School was in 2008. As a freshman I was honored to be one of the four players that scores counted for the win. As a result of this win, we were invited to the High School National Championship in Florida. As a player, I have participated in the Junior Tour of Northern California, and Northern Nevada Junior Golf Tournament series. I was also part of the US Kids Golf programs in Reno, NV and Central Valley/Sacramento, Ca. I also play in local tournaments run by Truckee Tahoe Junior Golf Tour.
