My name is Javier Vazquez. I am a 16 year old junior at Piscataway High School. I began to golf in the seventh grade during the pandemic. I eventually started to learn to play in competitive one day US Kids and Under Armour events. At 14 years old I made the decision to prioritize golf and travel baseball and travel basketball.
Prior to As a freshman year I competed in my first two day junior event in the summer of 2021 as I was the overall NJ points leader in the Under Armour Junior Tour. Since then I've continued to work on my game and have lowered my handicap to a as low as a 3.
During my freshman year I was a varsity starter and made the the all-division and all-county teams while leading my team to a a third place conference finish. In my sophomore year I was named team co-captain and again named to the all division and all-county teams while also leading the conference with the lowest scoring differential. I was also the only player on my team selected to play in the state tournament while missing the finals by only two strokes. Through all this I have quickly been recognized as one of the more formidable players in New Jersey.
As a son of two US Air Force veterans, my parents continue to instill the discipline, accountability, work ethic and team work required to be successful in life. Through this I have developed the discipline and work ethic in both my athletic and academic life. On the course I have progressed from being towards the end of leaderboards to climbing up to top ten finishes, and most recently finishing in 2nd place in a PRGA junior event.
While remote learning during COVID set me back in my schoolwork, I realized that my school work had suffered and I had to do something quickly. In order to change this I took the initiative and voluntarily attended tutoring three times a week. I also requested and received additional learning support through Huntington Learning center. Since putting in this extra work during the spring and summer, I have raised my overall GPA to 3.0 and am currently at a 3.3 this school year.
I have truly been playing tournament golf for only the better part of the past two years. In that time I have quickly lowered my scores and differential. Going into the 2023 golf season I was ranked close to 11,000 in JGS. I am in the mid 5,000 and quickly climbing. I can assure you that my commitment and hard work in the classroom, gym, practice facility will translate to continued improvement and success on the course.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and I look forward to more conversations as I actively start my college recruitment process.
